Operate a variety of equipment utilized in the construction of Stream & Wetland Restoration
Projects. This position may require working out of town Monday – Friday.

Essential Functions

  • Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in stream restoration or site preparation.
  • Excavators w/ Hydraulic Thumbs
  • Bulldozer
  • Wheel Loaders
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Project Manager, Safety Director, or Human Resources Manager as needed.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in equipment training.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor, clean equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles. Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions.
  • Ability to travel and work away from home for two or more weeks at a time.
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in stream restoration and site preparation.
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work from construction specifications or project plans.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Physical Work Activities and Exposure

Operators must have good eyesight and better than average coordination to operate both hand and foot levers simultaneously. They must have good judgment to perform complicated tasks and must be able to work closely with other crafts without constant supervision. Skilled operators are constantly alert and observant of their surroundings.

  • Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions including rain and extreme heat.
  • Exposure to wet and humid condition daily
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs and occasionally lift and /or move up to 100lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, talking, and hearing.
  • Use of hands to operate tools or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Walk distances over uneven terrain.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in operating heavy equipment.
  • Sufficient education to make appropriate arithmetic equations and complete written
  • documentation; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that
  • provides the desired knowledge, skills, and characteristics.
  • May require working out of town Monday – Friday
